Educational & Awareness Activities
Chiranthana Charitable Trust also aims at creating awareness among the public and has taken up many social service activities towards providing education to the public and needy students
Student Education Sponsorship



Chiranthana had sponsored the college education of a girl, for two years, by paying a scholarship to meet her expenses
like college fees, books, dress, etc.
Chiranthana has been donating for School Uniforms, books etc every year and also Scholarship to 2 students of Muliya Thimmappayya School, given for their interest and practice of social service.
Public Awareness Programmes
A talk on herbal medicines - by Dr. Savithri Daithota
She hails from the "Panaje Pandit" family which is almost a synonym for Ayurvedic Medicines. She provided information on treating common health problems using domestic plants & herbs.
She also informed about the various first aid methods that can be done using the edibles commonly found in almost all kitchens.


Demonstration & talk on superstitious blind beliefs by Prof Shankar, Udupi.
A world renowned magician, he conducted this awareness programme wherein he demonstrated many tricks used by fake "tantriks" to fool people and swindle money from them.
Dr. Pallathadka Keshava Bhat’s talk on ’Daily Food Habits’.
In his discourse, he explained about various affects of most of our daily food products and also suggest healthy food habits.

Workshop on Legal Awareness.
It was conducted by Advocate Sudha V. S., Mangalore. It was attended by over 350 women from local SHGs.

Self Employment
Training
Programmes

Since Dec. 2004, Chiranthana has been organising free self-employment training programmes.

Release of "KAVANA KANNADI" :
"Kavana Kannadi" a collection of poems of Shyamala Navakana was released on 29 November 2004.
Shyamala Navakana, a parkinson diseased, was an inmate of Chiranthana since 2001.
She passed away inthe year 2008 and also donated her body to KMC, Mangalaore.

Visit to other organisations

Chiranthana has visited a few other old aged homes and rehabilitation centers
and helped the residents by arranging entertainment programmes, by donating cloths or by distributing fruits and sweets.

Activities especially for the residents of Chiranthana . . .


Outing for the Residents :
Though over 75% of the inmates in Chiranthana are disabled and bedridden, the institution has been trying to provide an outing to those who can walk and move around.
Bhajan Programmes :
Bhajan programmes are organised at the Chiranthana premises for its inmates. Members of the Satya Sai Seva Samithi (MRPL) and Smt Lakshmi Parashuram and Team , Surathkal, are the two Bhajan teams who visit Chiranthana and make the residents happy with their Bhajan Sessions and sathsangha.


A day with the residents
Many well-wishers of Chiranthana, including individuals & association, celebrate their memorable days like birthdays, anniversaries, etc., with the residents of the Old Age Home.
They distribute fruits and sweets to the residents and share their time with them.
Celebrations of Festivals
These religious and cultural activities create a sense of security & contentment to the residents.
It provides them psychological strength to face the difficulties that may be awaited ahead.
